"I'm not playing"

In recent months, magazines, newspapers, and television networks have carried stories, pictures, even programs, about the devil. We are reading about, and also seeing and hearing from, so-called witches, warlocks, and advocates of the devil. Their "churches," covens, and activities are reported as growing in numbers and membership. Even well-known universities are offering courses in witchcraft.

It has been observed that the devil can't win, but he can't lose either, so long as he can keep the game going.

Is there a devil? As an individual, evil personality, No. We learn in Christian Science that the term devil stands for error, for hypnotic suggestion, for lies about God and false claims about His likeness, man. Christian Science teaches us not to personalize evil. Because evil is no part of God's creation, it has no real being, no true identity. Christ Jesus said of the devil, "He is a liar, and the father of it." John 8:44; Because God, good, is All, the supposed opposite of good—called devil, or evil—is a contradiction of Truth, and without actuality.
