Solving Your Unemployment Problem

Finding employment in the midst of unfavorable economic conditions need not be impossible when one applies the rules of Christian Science to the situation. In the Christian Science textbook. Science and Health, Mary Baker Eddy writes, "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul." Science and Health, p. 269; This gives one a guideline as to how to solve his problem.

Whether one is an inexperienced worker just out of school applying for his first job, or whether one is looking for another job, the need is always the same—to replace the "objects of sense" with the "ideas of Soul."

How does one go about this? He needs to recognize, first of all, that the "objects of sense" include not just physical objects but all the negative limitations of mortal existence such as the fact that one is out of work, that he has been unjustly fired, or that there are too many others looking for work at the same time. Conditions of material sense, or the belief of a life apart from God, present a limited aspect of man or his neighbor. They suggest a state of affairs seemingly beyond our control, and they come under the heading of "objects of sense." The need is to replace them with the spiritual facts of being, the "ideas of Soul," as Christian Science fully explains.
