I am very grateful for Christian Science, and have often wondered how we could have done without it in bringing up four daughters. Recently my eldest daughter made me feel more grateful than ever when she said, "Really, Dad, it has been easier for us than it has been for many of our friends, since you have never asked us to do something that you and Mother didn't practice yourselves." By this she meant that since we don't smoke or drink or take drugs in any form, it was much easier for them not to do so. This in itself has been a great blessing to us.

I would like to relate a healing that I experienced a number of years ago. We were having some friends over for a barbecue on the patio, and I had always cleaned the grill by building a large fire under it to burn off anything that was left from the previous time I had used it. The heavy grill was red hot and I inadvertently reached down to pick it up with my bare hand. The hand actually smoked, and as I jerked it back, the thought came, "Now you have badly burned yourself and have ruined the entire evening." Just as quickly I reversed this thought with the understanding that man is made in the image and likeness of God and is spiritual, not material.

Then a simple angel thought came: How can you burn Spirit? You really can't! And I had already seen that man is the likeness of God, who is Spirit. With this, I went about helping with the dinner. Later that evening I thought of the incident again and looked at my hand. There wasn't a mark on it.
