It was through our mother's instantaneous healing of a severe case of gallstones that we became interested in Christian Science. I recall the severe attacks, the suffering so great that we expected each one to be the last. Mother was told by several specialists that unless she had an operation she could not live more than six months. In the meantime a neighbor loaned her a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. When the next attack occurred, Mother was working at the sewing machine. She said, "I reached for the book, Science and Health, instead of a medical remedy I had used. I read for some time, and then I came to the lines (p. 6), ' "God is Love." More than this we cannot ask, higher we cannot look, farther we cannot go.' I pondered these words and suddenly the pain disappeared, never to return." The doctors' pronouncement of six months was proven false, for we had the privilege of having our mother with us through her ninety-fourth year.

Several years ago a growth appeared on my face. Continuous prayerful metaphysical work was taken up, but the condition did not yield to treatment. However, I kept two helpful quotations in thought: "For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear" (Job 11:15) and "When all fleshly belief is annihilated, and every spot and blemish on the disk of consciousness is removed, then, and not till then, will immortal Truth be found true, and scientific teaching, preaching, and practice be essentially one" (Retrospection and Introspection by Mrs. Eddy, p. 94).

The friend who was helping me through prayer assured me that the condition would just drop away from me one day, and that is what happened. While visiting in another city, I noticed that the growth became dry and hard and began to drop off. Soon it was so completely gone that not even a mark or redness of the skin remained. So it was proven that when error could not find a place in my thinking, the healing came.
