Since 1920, Christian Science has been my guiding light

Since 1920, Christian Science has been my guiding light. My previous strong prejudice against Christian Science was overcome when I listened to the reading of less than a page from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. My hostility due to ignorance of Truth was overcome immediately by the enlightening facts of Truth, and my previous rather limited, but nonetheless definite, idea of a good God was given the impetus of a provable foundation, and rapidly expanded from belief, on through faith, to some degree of understanding.

My immediate acceptance of Christian Science as the truth, embodying the Word, brought early healings. Glasses for daily use, and goggles fitted with lenses for field work, were laid aside in the first few weeks without my even noticing the change. I threw out the contents of a full medicine cabinet stocked with cathartics. From then on I had no more constipation. Our three-year-old son was healed of a double hernia. All these healings resulted from the change of our viewpoint by merely reading Science and Health. During the next four or five years there were other evidences of divine help in connection with supply and protection, as well as healings of so-called children's diseases and effects of falls. On several occasions, in cases of illness which we were unable to handle completely ourselves, we called on Christian Science practitioners for treatment through prayer. We also had a practitioner's help at the time of the births of two children. All this effective prayerful work greatly endeared these loving, selfless, devoted workers to us.

Our contact with the practitioners made us conscious not only of benefits to be had by identifying ourselves with the Christian Science movement but also of our obligation, so membership in The Mother Church and a branch church followed, and our children started attending Sunday School.
