from a Sunday School Girl

One day a classmate of mine asked me about Christian Science. I told her that Christian Scientists follow the teachings of Christ Jesus and pray the Lord's Prayer. This is the one that begins, "Our Father which art in heaven," Matt. 6:9; which I say every night before I go to sleep.

I told her that God is Love and God is good. She thought God was both good and bad and could harm you. But I told her God couldn't hurt you and doesn't punish you. He doesn't let anything really hurt you. I told her Christian Scientists don't use medicine because God is our best help. You should turn to God in prayer.

Then I told her about the time Mother and I went to open a house that had been empty all summer. Under the porch was a beehive, and the little bees flew up from between the boards and stung my legs. It hurt! Mother tried to tell me that I was spiritual and not material. This is what Mrs. Eddy teaches us in Science and Health: "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." Science and Health, p. 468. But all I could think of was those mean little bees and how my legs hurt—and how I hated this house and hated those bees—and I wanted to go home and never come back.
