Healing August 26, 1972 Issue

[Ability to demonstrate Christian Science comes with study and practice of the truth taught by Christ Jesus and revealed in Science and Health. This series touches upon some ways in which this truth can be applied.]

Healing by truthful argument

Human discord can be destroyed by arguing for Truth. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Argue at first mentally, not audibly, that the patient has no disease, and conform the argument so as to destroy the evidence of disease." ^{ Science and Healths p. 412;} And elsewhere, "By the truthful arguments you employ, and especially by the spirit of Truth and Love which you entertain, you will heal the sick." ^{ p. 418;}

Disease is not a legitimate experience of mortal man. It is a false condition of thought appearing as a physical discord. It is a flimsy suggestion of ill health projected by mortal mind on the body and supported only in belief by the testimony of personal sense. Therefore it can be destroyed by changing the thought.

This change is made through the Christ, the manifestation of Truth, which reveals and demonstrates in the place of mortal discord the idea of unblemished perfection. We entertain the Christ through the love for God we express and through our willingness to grapple with the beliefs that appear to oppose Him.
