Truth Has a Penetrating Effect

What do we need to do when a state of mental darkness seems to block our pathway? We need to reach out to God and feel His presence and His great love. We need to get busy expressing moral and spiritual qualities, including kindness, unselfed love, thought-fulness, usefulness, service, consecration to good. Such qualities penetrate the dark clouds of personal sense, which blind us to the presence of true identity.

In Mrs. Eddy's writings there are some thought-provoking references on "penetration." In the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, she writes, "The expression mortal mind is really a solecism, for Mind is immortal, and Truth pierces the error of mortality as a sunbeam penetrates the cloud." Science and Health, p. 210;

Divine Mind is all-pervasive. The understanding of this fact can pierce the heaviest cloud of personal sense and reveal what is really present. In the Bible, Paul speaks of "one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Eph. 4:6; In any discordant human relations problem—one involving hatred, for instance—communion with this Mind can reveal to us the pathway to take. It can show us the wise steps to take when unemployment is facing us. It can disclose the true concept of man when disease appears real to mortal sense. Conscious reflection of the divine Mind can throw light upon any mortal scene that would baffle the student of Christian Science.
