The Importance of Waking Up

It is thought by many that Christian Science is merely a doubtful substitute for medical treatment. But careful investigation will prove to any sincere seeker for Truth that the healing action of Christian Science is anything but doubtful. Nor is it a substitute for anything. While it is not material, it is positive and effective, as thousands of healed people can gratefully testify.

However, this Science has a vastly wider mission than the healing of sick bodies and unhappy lives, important as that is. At its advent in 1866, it triggered an alarm that has never stopped sounding. And it never will stop until humanity fully wakes up from the limiting, dreamlike illusion that man and the universe are material and separate from God. Mrs. Eddy says: "Healing physical sickness is the smallest part of Christian Science. It is only the bugle-call to thought and action, in the higher range of infinite goodness." Rudimental Divine Science, p. 2;

From the standpoint of what they already have seen and experienced, students of Christian Science believe their religion to be the most important and far-reaching discovery ever made. Admittedly it is revolutionary—in the best sense of that word—for it throws down the gauntlet to all forms of materialism—in science, theology, and medicine. Its real mission is to uplift and educate human thought in the things of Spirit, so that mankind may be saved from material theories and their ever-recurring harmful results.
