Sometimes people have said to my sister and to me, "It must be marvelous to have been brought up in Christian Science." I feel sure it is the greatest gift we can ever give to our children, but I have found that sooner or later each one has to prove its teaching for himself.

One morning, some months after the passing of my mother, I started to shake violently and could not walk a step. The one who came daily to our home to help was concerned and called a doctor. He prescribed tranquilizers, saying most kindly that these symptoms would take up to eighteen months to abate, and could never be fully cured but only suppressed.

Confused and frightened, I accepted his remedy, and reluctantly continued with it for several months, feeling ashamed and full of despair. I knew that Christian Science treatment and drugs could not be mixed. Then one day, coming to myself, and longing to learn more of Truth, I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner. Her warmth, love, and wonderful reassurance I shall never forget.
