Now Is the Time to Show Our Love

A plugged water pipe can neither emit nor receive a flow of water. The stoppage causes inaction and eventual stagnation. But once the obstruction is removed and the outgo resumes, an ever new supply of fresh water comes in. As the pipe gives, so it receives. The more water goes out, the more comes in.

What does this simple analogy teach us? Just this—that whether the need is for fresh water or for a better sense of monetary supply, there first must be outgo, or giving, before there can be receiving, or a continuously adequate income. Christ Jesus stated this eminently reasonable proposition very simply when he said: "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." Luke 6:38:

Christian Science teaches that when one gives with all his heart he actually is expressing the love that reflects God, divine Love. He is in effect ratifying the indissoluble unity of God and the real man, divine Principle and idea. And because human life is a mental phenomenon picturing or expressing human thinking, all its conditions are governed by thought. Unselfish love expands and enriches human consciousness, producing a picture of harmony and abundant well-being.
