Examinations—and Self-examination

[For young adults]

Today's scientific and technological progress demands special training of a higher proportion of employees than ever before. To many young men and women their entire vocational future seems dependent upon their gaining superior results in competitive entrance examinations to some essential training course and then upon maintaining a satisfactory record through long years of study.

Christian Science can destroy the fears this situation sometimes presents. The student who accepts the demands of his studies in spiritual terms rather than in those of his human future can master aggressive suggestions of personal inadequacy, of inability to handle the great volume of work involved, or of a poor grasp of the essential principles of a subject.

Mrs. Eddy writes, "Watch diligently; never desert the post of spiritual observation and self-examination." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 154; And in her next sentence she lists specific qualities: "Strive for self-abnegation, justice, meekness, mercy, purity, love. Let your light reflect Light. Have no ambition, affection, nor aim apart from holiness."
