The illness that first led me to try Christian Science was one that the medical profession had termed fatal because they had no cure for it at that time. Special medicines were flown in from different parts of the country, but everything tried had no effect.

A devoted student of Christian Science, though almost a stranger to me, saw my plight and offered her religion. My response was a curt reply that I had tried everything including diets, herbs, and drugs and that now I was resigned to the fact that my case was hopeless. Then I left her. I continued in my duties of the day, but I could not dismiss the note of light and hope in her conversation. I thought about the love and kindness this person had shown, and after completing my work, I returned to her home and apologized, and accepted some Christian Science literature she offered.

That night I prayed more earnestly than ever before that God would tell me if this religion would heal me and if I should pursue it. I was awakened in the early hours of the morning, and this message came to my consciousness and was repeated three times. "Christian Science will heal you."
