A friend invited several women, of whom I was one, to a luncheon
A friend invited several women, of whom I was one, to a luncheon. One of the group had asked us all to ride in her large and very heavy car to the home of our hostess. As I left the car upon returning home, my hand was caught in the door. The car started to move off, but my call caused the driver to stop; and I was able to open the door and release my hand.
I asked a member of my family to call a Christian Science practitioner. He dialed the number and placed the telephone receiver in my hand. I explained to the practitioner what had happened and was told not to look at the injury and that help would be given immediately.
No more than half an hour elapsed before I was completely free of pain and found the courage to remove my glove while keeping my hand completely covered by a towel. I did not know exactly what had happened until later when I discovered that the end of my middle finger, including the whole nail, had been cut off. It was not reattached.
