Christian Science came to my family when I was very young
Christian Science came to my family when I was very young. I remember my mother speaking of that first experience. My brother was seriously ill with scarlet fever and was not responding to the medication prescribed by the doctor. A kind friend of the family recommended Christian Science, and in desperation a practitioner was called. Healing resulted within a very short time.
I recall being taken by my mother to visit a practitioner when I had a so-called children's disease. The difficulty vanished that same day; and although the visit was short, the calm, sweet confidence of the practitioner left a lasting impression upon me.
Unfortunately no one in the family became an earnest student of Christian Science. We rarely attended church or Sunday School. I drifted along comparatively free of physical ailments, giving little thought to Christian Science except for a conviction that it was the only religion I would want to embrace. At the time, however, religion did not seem very important to me.
