RADIO PROGRAM NO. 269 - Why People Turn to God for Healing

Questioner: Churches of many denominations are holding healing services. In this day and age, why do people turn to God for healing?

Speaker: For many reasons, but I'd say the primary reason is a desire for wholeness. I'm not talking just about a physically well body, but wholeness in a broader sense—that is, finding peace, contentment, freedom from fear, a life of purpose and usefulness. Right in the midst of all the tragic division in the world people are looking for a new wholeness, a wholeness that many are finding through turning to God for healing.

Healing as we use the word in Christian Science applies to the entire spectrum of human needs. This approach to healing is really a form of worship of God. Such healing does not come from asking God to do something but from searching to understand God better. It reveals greater insight into one's relationship to God. In other words, spiritual healing is basically a deeper involvement with God.
