On page 170 of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, is found this statement: "The description of man as purely physical, or as both material and spiritual,—but in either case dependent upon his physical organization,—is the Pandora box, from which all ills have gone forth, especially despair." I should like to relate with a feeling of deep gratitude how I was healed, with the help of a devoted practitioner of Christian Science, of an ill which was confronting me with gloom and despair.

I had been wearing glasses for reading and sewing. Feeling great discomfort, I decided it was time to have them adjusted. I went to an ophthalmologist. He examined my eyes thoroughly, and then said: "I am not going to change your glasses now because of a condition I think may be the beginning of cataracts. Come back in four months; I can then see more clearly what is facing you."

He offered to give me drugs to use in my eyes, which had been causing much pain. I replied, "I am a Christian Scientist and never use drugs and shall use my religion to heal the condition you describe."
