For over forty years now I have been receiving the benefits of the study of Christian Science. During this time there have been many proofs of God's care in meeting my human needs and guiding me through difficult experiences. I became interested in Christian Science because I had lost all faith in medical help to bring relief from periods of nervous depression which had gone on for more than ten years. After my healing there was a time when the symptoms returned, but I was permanently healed by obedience to this rule in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 495): "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea."

I went through deep waters about five years ago. I was subjected to severe mental suffering and for a short period was unconscious. When I awoke from this nightmare, life became gradually more harmonious. I learned to see error, or animal magnetism, as an impersonal lie. I struggled with error until I saw its unreality. I kept on working, filling my consciousness with truths from the Bible and Science and Health. Our hymns were also an inspiration to me.

It had seemed before this experience that I had been deprived of much good, but now I know of a certainty that my joy cannot be taken from me because it is a spiritual quality not dependent on human circumstances. Old friends have become dearer and new friendships have been formed as I seek to share the blessings of God's love with others.
