When we speak someone's name, we usually wait for a reply before going on with the conversation. But when we say, "Our Father which art in heaven," Matt. 6:9; do we wait? Divine Love, our Father-Mother is constantly sending forth ideas of Truth, and if we listen when we pray, we hear or feel or in some way see spiritually what Love is imparting.
Christian Science enables us to understand God, not as a corporeal personality but as infinite Mind. This Science reveals the falsity of material belief and thus points to the denial of matter as the way to a clear sense of Mind's guidance and love. When we do not deny matter, our sense of being is confused. It is cluttered with the debris of material belief—limited selfhood, conflicting mortal wills, personal wants, and so on—and this prevents our sensing clearly the warm, inspiring, strengthening, healing ideas emanating from Mind.
Mrs. Eddy speaks of the Lord's Prayer as covering our every need. And she says, "Only as we rise above all material sensuousness and sin, can we reach the heaven-born aspiration and spiritual consciousness, which is indicated in the Lord's Prayer and which instantaneously heals the sick."
