At the age of six I was enrolled by my parents in a Christian Science Sunday School, a fact for which F shall never cease to be grateful; and I have been a student of this most satisfying and important Science ever since. During the ensuing half century, I have learned to rely on God, the Giver of all good, for my daily needs, including the maintenance of health. An earnest student of Christian Science once told me, "It is better to be a spiritual constructor than a repairman!' Such has been my experience. Because of daily study of the revealing truth taught by Mrs. Eddy,! seldom have been "under repair."
Two healings through the application of Christian Science stand out. One was the healing of an abscess on my back. This healing was not rapid, but many false beliefs were brought to the surface of my thought and destroyed before the healing was complete. At no time did I doubt that divine Love would meet my need. During this experience, the counsel of the Psalmist came to me repeatedly (Ps. 46:10), "Be still, and know that I am God."
The second healing was of a condition which was probably an internal infection. Through the treatment I received from a practitioner, my own conscientious, prayerful study of Mrs. Eddy's writings, and the reading of our periodicals, I was able to awake to the basic nothingness of this condition and to the reality of my true status as a son of God. I lost but three days at work; meanwhile the body resumed normal functioning after a condition of irregularity had persisted for seven days. During one sleepless night, I well remember saying out loud to myself, "Somewhere in this world, someone at this very moment is being healed by Christian Science, and I am very grateful for it!" The mesmerism was broken then or very shortly thereafter. There has been no recurrence of the difficulty.
