William S. Hockman in the Christian Herald New York, New York
To teach is to love....It is hard to teach those we do not love, and the unloved teacher does not cause much learning to take place. True in all kinds of education, this profound truth is particularly true in the church school....
Have we any illustrations? Here is a young man, a salesman, who is having considerable success with a class of Seventh Grade boys and girls. He does not understand why they come as regularly as they do. He explains that he has had little training in the art and skills of teaching. I tell him that his young people say that they 'like' him. Love would be too strong a word for them to use, but the word they select is a lower-voltage version of that same meaning.
