The Lord preserveth the simple (Ps. 116:6)
The Hebrew word translated "simple" is sometimes used in a good sense, as here; but usually, in the Old Testament, it has reference to those who are easily misled or lacking in prudence. The root of the word suggests the thought of openness and may mean, as in the present verse, that the minds of "simple" folk are open lo good. Elsewhere, as in Proverbs 1:32. the implication is that these people are open to erroneous suggestions. Briggs has. "The simple-minded"; while Moffatt renders, "The Eternal protects poor souls."
Worshipped (Acts 17:25)
