I left Halifax, Nova Scotia, one day on a 6.25 p.m. plane which was due in Boston at 8.10 p.m. The day had been an unusually pleasant one; but as I drew near the airport, I noticed a haziness setting in. We had no sooner left the ground than we were told that because of fog in New Brunswick, the plane would go to Frederickton instead of St. John and that there would be a twenty-minute stopover.

After leaving Frederickton, we proceeded to Boston amid some turbulence and fog as we approached the coast of Maine. When we arrived over Boston, we began to circle the city, and after doing so a few times, we received the report that we could not land due to fog. A second report soon followed, telling us that the captain was having difficulty with the landing gear and had had orders to take the plane to Montreal.

During the one-hour flight to Canada, we were given instructions in case of what is known as a belly landing. Having given us these instructions and made sure that they were understood, the crew told us to relax and wait for further orders.
