One Saturday evening while I was sitting in our living room, a very strange feeling came over me, a numbness took hold of my right .side, and I was unable to speak. My wife declared aloud the truth that God was my Life.

She then went to the telephone and called a practitioner and asked for help in Christian Science. Although he lived many blocks away, it seemed only a few moments before he was at my side. I shall never forget his first words as he strode into the room: "There is nothing going on here but good!" His sure understanding of Christian Science and his unquestioning confidence in God's power to heal did much to relieve our tearfulness; and he began prayerful work to help me.

However, at midnight the situation appeared very serious. During the night we earnestly prayed and held to this encouraging passage on page 495 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures'' by Mary Baker Eddy: "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His likeness to abide in your thought. Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious—as Life eternally is—can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not. Let Christian Science, instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony."
