The Bible promise, "It shall come to pass, that before they call, I...

The Bible promise, "It shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer" (Isa. 65:24), was beautifully fulfilled in my experience. I had never heard of Christian Science in my native country, and I knew little about religion. Yet, as I look back over the years between high school graduation in the Netherlands and the day when the name Christian Science was brought to my attention for the first time in the United States of America, I marvel at the manner in which I was guided to find this wonderful religion. Every step of the way was one closer to the goal.

I should like to mention only the final combination of circumstances. I had trouble with my back, and this became evident shortly after I had met a devoted Christian Scientist who had become a very close friend of mine. She had never mentioned her religion to me until it became clear that the medical profession could not help me any more and that I was to go through the rest of my life as a semi-invalid.

Then she asked me, "Have you ever thought of trying Christian Science?" The name, as well as the idea, was completely new to me; but I went home with a little book, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I read it with great interest, but, strangely enough, not so much for the physical difficulty as for an entirely different reason.
