Coming Down or Going Up?

When we say, "I think I am coming down with something," we are doing ourselves harm. But we can reverse this complaint and overcome the symptoms which tell us we are getting sick. The "coming down" is mental and the physical effects are the result of mentally consenting to the approaching malady. By understanding that health is a quality of God, divine Truth, we can refuse consent to disease and claim our God-given health.

Christian Science reveals the man of God's creating as Truth's perfect expression. He reflects divine Love; therefore he loves only what is pure and good. He is motivated by the one Spirit; therefore his purpose for living is the same as God's purpose for being: the manifestation of infinite good. The Christ-idea which Jesus presented to us through his life and works is our model of the real man. As we seek to pattern our thoughts and lives after this ideal, our consciousness becomes more spiritual, and we rise into a more Godlike, more spiritual, sense of life and health. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes, "Mortals must gravitate Godward, their affections and aims grow spiritual, —they must near the broader interpretations of being, and gain some proper sense of the infinite,—in order that sin and mortality may be put off."  Science and Health, p. 265;

Spiritual manhood in God's image is real; sin and mortality are unreal. That is why we are able to rise above disease into health. Disease emanates from sin and mortality; health emanates from God, Spirit. It is as natural for us to gravitate Godward as it is for flowers to turn toward the light. It is unnatural for anyone to sink into ungodliness in any form, including ill health. Understanding this, we can intelligently and effectively reverse the symptoms of disease, seeing them merely as mental suggestions, and we can replace them with Godlike qualities wherein we find our identity as Truth's expression.
