"God made man free"
Within every heart there is the longing to be free from fear, sin, sickness, lack, sorrow, and all slavery. There is a constant effort to break loose from every shackle.
In 1864 some children sent a petition to Abraham Lincoln to the effect that there should be no more child slaves. President Lincoln replied, "Please tell these little people that I am very glad their young hearts are so full of just and generous sympathy, and that, while I have not the power to grant all they ask, I trust they will remember that God has, and that, as it seems, He wills to do it."
When all human means have failed us, is there still hope that we can be free and stay free? Mrs. Eddy says: "Discerning the rights of man, we cannot fail to foresee the doom of all oppression. Slavery is not the legitimate state of man. God made man free.'' Science and Health, p. 227;
