Military Service—An Opportunity

When an individual goes into the Armed Forces, the comment is sometimes heard, "It will make a man of him." The Marines use this saying in their recruiting. The same thought can be applied to one's growing into the manhood of Christian Science.

Military service gives the Christian Scientist many opportunities to demonstrate man's completeness and perfection. From these demonstrations he grows in his understanding of the allness, omnipresence, and omnipotence of Mind, and his true concept of man as the spiritual image and likeness of God continually unfolds.

In the Armed Forces, because of the enforced closeness of men living together and the official control over everyday activity, it sometimes appears that there is not enough time daily to study the Bible, Mrs. Eddy's writings, and the periodicals for spiritual refreshment. This seeming limitation can be overcome when we realize that good is eternal and unlimited, that all unfoldment is spiritual, and that because God is omniactive we reflect His control in our daily activities.
