True Self-government

In this present hour, false psychology is being unscrupulously applied throughout the world in the forms of continuous suggestion, the repetition of opinions, and the impress of individual personalities. Such organized and directed propaganda is used to influence the individual as well as the masses.

These suggestions of materialism exist only in the carnal, or mortal, mind, which is the counterfeit of the divine Mind. They are beliefs in the joy and satisfaction of material ease and gain and are presented to the human consciousness to be accepted and reacted to according to an outlined plan which we must challenge and reject. Negligence in questioning the value of every thought deprives one of individual self-government. Today, more than ever, it is imperative for individuals to allow God, divine Mind, to direct their thoughts and actions.

Christian Science teaches the importance of realizing true self-government. In Science and Health, under the marginal heading "Proper self-government," Mrs. Eddy says: "Like our nation, Christian Science has its Declaration of Independence. God has endowed man with inalienable rights, among which are self-government, reason, and conscience. Man is properly self-governed only when he is guided rightly and governed by his Maker, divine Truth and Love."  Science and Health, p. 106;
