Church Dedications

WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA (First Church)

Register-Pajaronian & Sun November 6, 1965

A church with the unusual rule that it doesn't dedicate a building until it's paid for will hold dedication services Sunday. It's First Church of Christ, Scientist, at 352 Arthur Road. It's been holding services in the new building since Nov. 10, 1963, but Christian Science churches are formally dedicated only when they're free of debt, and now's the time. The Georgian-style structure was ... built ... on three lots the church bought in 1960.

Christian Scientists have been meeting in Watsonville since 1898, first in members' homes. They were recognized as a Christian Science Society on March 14, 1902, by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. On Aug. 22, 1907, the society received recognition as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Watsonville.

In 1925 the church bought a lot at 230 East Lake Avenue, where its first building was erected in 1931. Its dedication, after the building was free of debt, was held April 16, 1944. The first building was sold....

Dedication services Sunday at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. are open to the public.
