"Who did hinder you...?"
Although one is not required to take class instruction in Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy provided in the Manual of The Mother Church for class teaching that the student might avail himself of this progressive step as part of his spiritual experience.
And in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" by Mrs. Eddy one of our Leader's students states Mrs. Eddy's views thus (p. 241): "Class teaching will not be abolished until it has accomplished that for which it was established; viz., the elucidation of the Principle and rule of Christian Science through the higher meaning of the Scriptures. Students who are ready for this step should beware the net that is craftily laid and cunningly concealed to prevent their advancement in this direction."
The time to take class instruction is determined by demonstration of divine guidance. Many times arguments of denial and delay push positive action on this question to the back of one's mind. Mortal mind, with its "little foxes, that spoil the vines" (S. of Sol. 2: 15), tempts us to cut the tender beginnings before they can grow to greater spiritual understanding. If we are not alert to this temptation, we may fail to hear the still small voice of Truth urging us forward.
