Inspired Teaching at Easter Time
At the coming of Easter, Sunday School teachers can share with their pupils the deep significance of the risen Christ. Then the pupils, as present-day disciples, can share in the joy and confidence inspired by Jesus' resurrection.
Mrs. Eddy instructed that Easter be kept free from festivity. To ensure a pure and spiritual concept of Easter, she included an emphatic section in the Church Manual which reads in part: "In the United States there shall be no special observances, festivities, nor gifts at the Easter season by members of The Mother Church. Gratitude and love should abide in every heart each day of all the years" (Art. XVII, Sect. 2). Inspired teaching should be revealing to pupils fresh spiritual views each year.
A teacher preparing for Easter Sunday was prayerfully considering the Beatitudes in connection with Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. She was thrilled to discover that each beatitude was fulfilled in the Easter experience: Jesus, being poor in spirit, was willing to undergo the crucifixion. He comforted his mourning friends by his resurrection.
