A DISCIPLE'S PRAYER
Dear
Father, on the altar of Thy love
I lay my simple offering tonight.
I bring to Thee a grateful, wiser heart,
And pray that it be pleasing in Thy sight.
Oh, I have stumbled and have fallen too,
And I have not fulfilled my every task.
And yet my one desire remains the same—
To heal and bless mankind is all I ask.
Teach me the duty of discipleship
That does not disobey or idly shirk;
Help me to follow Lord and Leader both
In living footprints of their healing work.
This duty is not burdensome or sad.
It is the one great joy that I can know;
It is the only mission I can have,
And from this task God will not let me go.
I think of Jesus on Emmaus Road
With resurrection shining in his face;
And of our Leader, and her "little book,"
So recent in our midst, so full of grace.
I ponder all the precepts of their lives—
The strong demands of Truth that would not cease;
And when my lonely nights are void of stars,
I think on them with love, and I find peace.
