Blot Out the Image of Disease

Mrs. Eddy has given us specific instructions for healing the ills of human experience. She defines the difficulty and then shows us how to remedy it. In the textbook, Science and Health, she says, "Disease is an image of thought externalized." Science and Health, p. 411; And she also says: "Blot out the images of mortal thought and its beliefs in sickness and sin. Then, when thou art delivered to the judgment of Truth, Christ, the judge will say, 'Thou art whole!'" p. 391;

This cleansing of thought is not accomplished through wishful thinking but by a scientific understanding of what is true of man. It requires a grasp of the facts of Christian Science, namely, that Spirit is substance, while matter is illusion; that a perfect God creates a perfect man as His image and likeness; that this God, who is divine Love, does not create disease, nor does He send it to men. When we understand that disease is an illusion, a creation of mortal thought with no scientific foundation, we shall find that we can deny its reality and blot it out of our thinking and out of our experience.

It is of great importance to understand that there is but one Mind, or consciousness, and that this Mind is the divine Mind in which there is no sin, disease, or death. This perfect Mind has a flawless expression, a perfect manifestation, and the real man includes the true selfhood of each individual. Each one can progressively identify himself with this perfect ideal. And as we hold to this ideal, we can detect the falsity of diseased beliefs, challenge their right to be present in our thinking, and displace them with the right ideas which express the harmony of God's government.
