Who Is My Best Friend?

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Carolyn hurried into the house, hiding her face. She didn't want anyone to see that she was crying. Going to her room, she closed the door, lay down on her bed, and gave way to tears.

She had been riding her bicycle after dinner with her friend Denise and three other children who had just moved into the neighborhood. They had decided not to ride bicycles anymore but to go into the new neighbor's backyard and play tether ball instead.

While Carolyn was putting her bicycle away, Denise whispered to the three other friends something which Carolyn could not hear. When Carolyn joined them again, Denise told her that they did not want to play with her anymore, and the children ran off, leaving her alone.
