The True Idea of God Heals

Christian Science reveals that our experience takes shape largely from our concept of God, for we express or reflect what we worship. If we have a limited, corporeal, or material sense of God, or good, then our experience will take on the limitations of this ideal. But when we learn of the infinite nature of God, the eternality of Life, and the unlimited Love which is the source of all good, then our lives take on a diviner sense and a more unlimited aspect.

At different stages in human history it has been apparent that as the true idea of God has become better known to men, it has liberated their experience from limitation and enslavement to various forms of bondage. For example, when Moses became aware of God as the great I Am and began to conceive of God as ever present and ever available, this enabled him to lead the children of Israel out of bondage to the Promised Land.

In later history it was Jesus' mission to bring to humanity the perfect expression of God, or the true idea of his Father. His teaching and example were designed to turn mankind from matter to Spirit, from mortality to immortality, and from sin to holiness. In demonstrating this true nature of God, he healed the sick, transformed the sinner, and raised the dead, thus showing that man in the likeness of God cannot be limited or enslaved, diseased or defeated.
