Childlike Confidence

Beautiful to behold is the trustful confidence of a little child. Many of us have seen a child fall down or bump his head and then look inquiringly, expectantly, at his father or mother. If he sees a smile, or is reassured with, "You are not hurt, dear," he generally responds with a smile and resumes his play.

The child is ready to cry or laugh; but confidence in his parent is so great, he willingly and instantly accepts the verdict the parent gives. The evidence of the material senses or the thought of other mortals has not yet challenged or confused the child's basic confidence in the parental assurance that everything is all right.

Christ Jesus recognized and respected this spiritual, childlike quality when he said to his mature and earth-experienced followers (Matt. 18:3), "Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."
