Open Advocacy of Christian Science

Some students feel that open advocacy of Christian Science exposes them in too great measure to the world's ridicule and hostility.

In that great compendium of Christianity called the Sermon on the Mount, Christ Jesus said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matt. 5: 16). The Master was addressing not only his twelve disciples but many others, who heard and understood sufficiently to fulfill the divine command. That they did so was later proved when Jesus sent forth seventy disciples to preach the reign of heaven on earth and to heal the sick and the sinning. Luke's Gospel records (10:17), "And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name."

After pleading the cause of Truth, these disciples "returned again with joy." Today the timeless teachings of the Master are being reiterated, explained, and demonstrated in Christian Science, and the belief that open advocacy of this Science results only in multiplied trials and hardships is refuted by the experiences of many modern-day disciples. The open advocacy of this Science can be joyous and rewarding, a blessing instead of a detriment. What if, in letting our light shine, some hardship confronts us? Are we not armed to resist and subjugate it successfully? And should we not be always ready, if necessary, to gladly endure trials for Truth's sake?
