Church Dedications
The Coast Advertiser
Asbury Park, New Jersey (First Church).
The [executive board] of First Church of Christ, Scientist, has announced that the edifice at the corner of Grand and Fourth Avenues, built in 1956, will be dedicated on Sunday, November 22. A Christian Scicnce church is not dedicated until free of debt and all outstanding debts, including the mortgage, have been paid in full. The members are now free to dedicate their edifice, in accordance with the rules of the denomination.
Christian Science services have been held regularly at the Shore since 1906. In 1915, property at the corner of Third Avenue and Emory Street was purchased, and a church edifice erected. The first services were held there in 1916, and that building was dedicated, free of debt, in 1922.
