It has been a great blessing to...
It has been a great blessing to me and my whole family to live according to the teachings of Christian Science, the way of Life, for many years; through this period numerous benedictions and healings have come to us. Our children have grown up harmoniously protected and guarded by the all-knowing and all-loving God. Since the days when I became a Sunday School pupil at the age of twelve, there has been an unfolding of worthwhile and good achievements in my experience as I have aimed at following the example set by the Master, Christ Jesus, through the study of the Bible and of the teachings of Mrs. Eddy.
I recall an experience that happened when I was a boy. With two friends, I climbed a very steep and high mountain in the Andes which was behind the farm where I was staying for the winter holidays. Upon reaching the summit after a half day's toil, we sat up there eating our meal and admiring the magnificent view that spread out under our feet on that clear and sunny day.
We soon noticed a few birds living in the strong wind that blew up the valley; they looked small because of the distance but we soon realized that they were condors. They approached the hill and started flying around it in a big circle without moving their ten-foot wings. Little by little they closed in, and the three of us found ourselves watching the tight ring out of which a dozen or more pairs of eyes were looking at us steadily and in such silence that we could hear the hiss of the wind under the feathery edge of their wings.
Someone said suddenly that we were in danger of an attack, and fear settled in. Each one of us grabbed a rock, and we stood back to back watching in terror the birds flying in a circle around us. While I stood there mesmerized, I could not think; but I soon was aware of the fact that the strange situation in which I was engaged was quite unreal. Awakened to the presence of divine Mind, I suddenly realized that it was sheer animal magnetism that bound us in an apparently helpless condition.
Spiritual ideas of good and of the perfection and allness of God, the divine Mind that governs the universe, including all of God's creatures, flowed in, filling my consciousness and allowing me to see clearly the reality of God's creation. I realized right there that the condors were actually an integral part of the beauty and infinity of nature spiritually discerned in the oneness, or unity, of which we all are God's creation and that since we are in reality His ideas, we can experience only harmony and good.
I felt a great sense of awe and of appreciation of the wonder of what I was beholding in this rare experience. Right thinking instantly dispelled the ugly sense of fright, and as a result of the calm assurance of Loves presence and power that this brought about, the condors flew away from us. After this remarkable demonstration of God's protection, I could with gratitude in my heart resume the contemplation of the marvels of nature which, when properly understood through Science, do not contain a single element of danger or of discord.
I am very grateful for the privileges of being a member of The Mother Church and a branch church and of service in the latter as Second Reader. These privileges have brought many blessings to my life. I am thankful for our devoted practitioners, who are always on the alert to help and assist in the upward way, and, above all, for having had the opportunity to know and study Christian Science, this wonderful heritage that our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has left to this age and to future ages.—Eric Morgan, Santiago, Chile.
