In my experience problems of...
In my experience, problems of accommodation, transport, place, and personal relationships have been solved, and healings of burns, influenza, and a sprained ankle have taken place through Christian Science. In addition, I have received help with examinations on many occasions through this practical religion.
On one occasion I was working full time as a teacher, taking university subjects part time, and studying for a theoretical teaching examination as well. Three weeks before the examination I discovered that as the result of an official's misinformation, I had been studying for the wrong examination.
At first it seemed futile to attempt to cover the full course in three weeks, but then I realized that "with God all things are possible" (Mark 10:27) and joyously set about preparing for the paper. I saw the concept of education as an idea, complete in Mind, I knew that it is a continuously unfolding idea and that no human laws of time can obstruct the unfoldment of a divine idea.
With these thoughts in my consciousness, I found I was able to assimilate and retain information for the examination much more easily than I had ever done before; the course was happily covered, and the examination passed.
The day before I was due to make a two-thousand-mile journey in my car, a piano was accidentally dropped on my toe. The pain was severe, but instantly I declared that matter can have no sensation. This truth eased the pain considerably, but there was still more work to be done. I spent most of the evening preceding the departure in prayer, and I was grateful to be able to get through the first two days of driving without too much discomfort.
Then I reached a major city where my business involved considerable walking and late appointments. When I returned to the hotel at eleven o'clock in the evening, with three days' driving and fifteen hundred miles to go, I found that my toe was very much swollen, and there was evidence of poisoning. Throughout most of the night I prayed to free myself from any poisonous or hateful thoughts I might have had and to see the whole journey as a right idea that could not be obstructed by any material beliefs.
I did not look at the toe for the next three days but continuously held to Mary Baker Eddy's statement from page 385 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." On arrival at my destination I found the condition of the toe much improved, though the nail was off, and the toe was still painful. I found the lack of a nail a deterrent to recreational activities; so I then worked to gain a right sense of rest and recreation.
To the extent that I saw re-creation as a renewing of my spiritual selfhood and knew that protection is spiritual, to that extent did the condition ease. This form of study was continued for the next few weeks until the time came for the return journey, and by then the new nail had completely covered the toe.
I am indeed humbly grateful for Christian Science.—Bruce Lloyd Warrell, Mount Waverly, Victoria, Australia.
