I first heard of Christian Science...
I first heard of Christian Science when, as a young woman, I visited an aunt whom I had not seen for several years. I found her in much better general health and freed from sick headaches that had previously plagued her for many years. I was much impressed, because I had helped my father through many such attacks, and I knew that two other members of the family, both medical doctors, had never been able to heal themselves of this condition. When she told me that her healing came about through the study of Christian Science, I thought it must be a good religion and let it go at that.
But the seed had been sown. Several years later, I found it almost impossible to walk because of varicose veins. I called on a doctor, but he just whistled when he saw the condition of my legs. He told me there was no cure.
We had just moved into a new neighborhood, and one morning a neighbor called to bid me welcome. Seeing my difficulty, she quietly asked me if I knew anything of Christian Science. When I told her of my aunt, this neighbor asked me if I would like her to call a practitioner and request her to visit me. I said I would. And when the practitioner came, I tried to understand what she was telling me.
