How Can We Know for Certain?

Jesus said, '"Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32). He did not say that the repeating of words would make us free. No. He said that it was the truth that would make us free through our knowing it. The question comes, How can we know for certain?

One day the writer came face to face with these words by Mrs. Eddy: "Man is immortal and lives by divine authority."' They are to be found in their context on page 76 of Science and Health which reads: "Suffering, sinning, dying beliefs are unreal. When divine Science is universally understood, they will have no power over man, for man is immortal and lives by divine authority."

These words came as a challenge. Are they true? Is this man me? Do I live "by divine authority'"? Am I immortal? If the answers are in the affirmative, as Mrs. Eddy declares them to be, then it would be absurd to suppose that the writer could not know this beyond any question of doubt in his day-to-day living. Furthermore it must be evident for all to see.
