Before I was three years old my parents were divorced, and I was taken to live with my grandmother, who at that time was just becoming interested in Christian Science. From that day to this, I have had no medication or medical care of any kind.

For all the healings I have experienced, I am very grateful; but perhaps the greatest blessing came when I learned not to depend on my own planning and guidance but to put myself, as God's own child, in His care and then listen for His voice. I no longer plan anything without first praying many times a day, "Not my will, but thine, be done" (Luke 22: 42). Each day as I walk to work I meditate and ponder the truths that Mrs. Eddy has given us, and this prayer has proved to be a wonderful protection in many ways.

About three years ago, on arriving home from work one day, I stepped out of my shoes and walked across the room to open the windows. As I reached the window I struck my foot against a table with such force that it seemed I would be thrown headlong through the window, but even as my foot struck, my consciousness was flooded with these words from the Bible (Ps. 91: 11, 12):"He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone." Immediately I regained my balance.
