Ever-present Joy

"Joy cometh in the morning." These welcome words are from a familiar hymn (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 425).

Yes, joy comes with the triumph of Truth. It comes in the morning, and at all other times and in all places—but not from outside ourselves. Christian Science teaches that being a quality of God, joy is inherent in man, God's reflection. Hence it is never absent but permanent and inviolate. We cannot create it or lose it; we do not need to go anywhere or do anything to obtain it. We only need to become aware of it.

Joy is a quality of God. The more we understand God as our loving Father-Mother, the more we realize our own identity as His image. Thus to be aware of ourselves as we really are in Science is to experience joy in overflowing measure. As we contemplate the inspiration and satisfaction of Soul, the spontaneity and unlabored impulsion of Mind, and realize that these and other attributes of God are ours by reflection, we are certain to radiate joy.
