Overcoming Stagnation

Lack of growth and development of any kind is widely recognized to be unnatural to happy, healthy living. Furthermore, such a condition is found to be impossible in the Science of Life, or Mind, which unfolds infinitely. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 283), "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action."

The creative action of infinite Mind, which is God, is the very essence of life. Mind originates and supplies an endless store of spiritual ideas, which appear like oases in a desert of blighted hopes to those who place their trust in God. When one understands in Science that man, created in the image and likeness of God, reflects unlimited spiritual activity, his moments can be occupied in expressing constructive, intelligent, useful ideas.

Spiritually uninstructed mortals find it difficult to comprehend that real life and action are produced by Spirit, not by matter or material minds. If one bends his efforts to get ahead on a material basis, the time inevitably arrives when all processes that are not spiritually motivated stagnate. This is because everything that is substantial and lasting stems from God, who is the one creator.
