THE SAMARITAN

My neighbor fell among thieves
Who robbed him of his good name,
Stripped him and left him helpless
And stricken with shame.

What shall I do for my neighbor?
Cover him with all speed,
Take him to kindly shelter
And look to his need:

Water of Truth for his cleansing,
Oil of prayer for his pain,
Bread and wine to inspire him
To face life again—

These will I give to my neighbor
To repay in smallest measure
The debt that I owe to Love
For my heart's treasure.
