It Is Natural to Be Well and Happy

It is evident that Christ Jesus considered health, happiness, and success to be the natural, normal state of man, and evil, disease, and death to be abnormal and unnatural. Mary Baker Eddy, the beloved Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, states (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 200): "it was the consummate naturalness of Truth in the mind of Jesus, that made his healing easy and instantaneous. Jesus regarded good as the normal state of man, and evil as the abnormal; holiness, life, and health as the better representatives of God than sin, disease, and death." why do health, happiness, and abundance seem unusual, marvelous, or, in common parlance, too good to be true? Because men generally think of matter as real and substantial and of Spirit as transcendental, illusive, and having little to do with daily living. False education based on the belief of life, substance, and intelligence in matter has built up in the minds of men a universe made of a combination of matter and Spirit with the former having power over the latter.

Christian Science shows the true universe, including man, to be wholly spiritual, expressing the intelligence of Mind, the purity of Spirit, and the substance of infinite Principle. All is good; good is natural. Reasoning from this basis, the student of Christian Science, instead of thinking of anything as too good to be true, knows that what is bad cannot possibly be true.
