An Essential Distinction
"Son , weed or petunia?" the experienced gardener queried as he pointed to first one and then the other while teaching his ten-year-old son to weed my garden.
"Weed!" and, again, "Petunia!" the boy would call out triumphantly to demonstrate his newly acquired ability to distinguish weeds from two-inch petunia plants.
As I watched the gardener and his son from my window, I thought how essential it is that we all learn to distinguish thoughts originating in the divine Mind from suggestions originating in mortal mind. The ability to distinguish the real from the unreal, the true from the false, and the spiritual from the material determines our human experience. Christian Science teaches us how to make this distinction, so essential to spiritual growth.
