Our family has received many healings through the application of the teachings of Christian Science. A double hernia, colds, pneumonia, laryngitis, a poisonous rash, a felon, sprained limbs, and headaches have been healed, and the appetite for tobacco, alcohol, tea, and coffee has been overcome through complete reliance on Truth.

More recently, while I was serving as Second Reader in a branch church, the developing symptoms of influenza were so severe prior to the service that it seemed almost impossible for me to step to the desk to perform my duties. However, this message from the first Epistle of Peter lifted my thought to God (4:11-13): "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth. . . . Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy."

And, indeed, I was "glad ... with exceeding joy," for I was able to read with no sound or symptom of discomfort. Truly some words of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, were demonstrated anew. In her Message to The Mother Church for 1901, after extending to the faithful her fellowship of heart and hand, she says (p. 1), "And rest assured you can never lack God's outstretched arm so long as you are in His service." There was no return of the symptoms.
